Little River State Park

Little River State Park is located in Waterbury, VT almost halfway between Montpelier and Burlington. The park is part of the Mount Mansfield State Park which is Vermont's largest State Park with over 12,000 acres of campground.

Little River offers places to swim, play ball, hike or camp out. Right next to the park is the Waterbury Reservoir where you can enjoy fishing or boating. It's a great place to enjoy the outdoors. But, if the weather doesn't accomodate, you can head indoors to see what's doing in the Park's nature museum.

There is also a lot of history surrounding the park. You can find an old sawmill, cemeteries and cellar holes going back to the first settlers in the 1700s.

This part of Vermont was hit hard by the 1927 and 1935 floods. After the 1935 flood the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) came in to build a dam and create the Waterbury Reservoir. It took over 2,000 men living in something like 80 buildings several years to build the dam. There's not a lot left, but you can find some of the old foundations and chimneys up around the old CCC camp.
