Button Bay State Park
Button Bay State Park offers all your favorite outdoor activities: hiking, camping, fishing and boating. If you want to spend your Vermont vacation outdoors, Button Bay State Park is a great place to be. The park gives you spectacular views of Lake Champlain and New York's Adirondack Mountains. The park is right on the lake so everyone can find something to do; swimming, fishing, boating, walking trails or hiking and camping. Button Bay State Park is in Vergennes, Vermont, just about 20 miles south of Burlington.
The park was named after the button-like clay formations where water has eroded the shoreline. Up until about 1964, it was a farm with over 200 acres. Now there's a large picnic pavilion, 73 campsites and 13 'lean-tos.' And despite being right on the lake, there's also a swimming pool.
You can even teach the kids a little about Vermont's history. The Vergennes area has claims has seen some historical figures. Ethan Allen and Ben Franklin stopped by in 1776. And the lake itself is named after the man who discovered it: Samuel de Champlain.
